The role played in the development of
secondary osteoarthritis by very small
trauma-related defects of the articular
cartilage is often underestimated. This is
the view of Professor Dieter Kohn, Direc-
tor of the orthopedic clinic and polyclin-
ic at the Saarland University Hospital.
Basically, a constant series of microin-
juries can develop into full-blown osteo-
arthritis. Fast action is required with
regard to treatment.
